Haunted Airwaves is a podcast app made by Encounter Atlas. The short version: there's no account, we don't track you, and your listening stays on your phone.
What stays on your phone
The shows you follow, your queue, what you've played, where you stopped in each episode, your settings and any episodes you download are saved on your phone only. We never see them. Uninstalling the app deletes all of it.
What the app connects to
To show you podcasts the app has to fetch them, so your phone talks to these places, which see the usual things any website sees (your IP address and the type of device):
- encounteratlas.com, for the weekly list of shows, artwork, book and gear picks. We keep standard server logs for a short time to keep the site running and don't use them to identify anybody.
- Each podcast's own host (Spreaker, Megaphone, Libsyn and so on), when you open a show, play or download an episode. That's how the show gets credit for your listen. Their privacy policies cover what they log.
- Apple's image servers, for some show artwork.
What we don't do
- No accounts and no sign-in.
- No analytics, advertising IDs or ad networks in the app.
- We don't sell or share any personal information, because we don't collect any.
Links that leave the app
Book and gear picks link to Amazon, and we may earn a small commission if you buy something (as an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases). Show notes can link anywhere the show chooses. Emailing us about your podcast opens your own mail app.
Notifications
While an episode plays, Android shows a player notification so you can pause and skip from the lock screen. That's all it's used for.
Kids
The app isn't made for children under 13, and some shows are pretty scary.
